Positive Reviews
positive:
Ideally situated
Located in the heart of Betws-Y-Coed, guests love the location of the Royal Oak, commenting favourably on the number of attractions and hiking trails near the hotel. Also, the hotel is ideally situated to allow you to reach many other areas of Wales with ease.
positive:
Delicious food
Whether eating in the Grill or the Llugwy River Restaurant (fine dining), guests rate the standard of the food highly. The bar is also a highlight of the hotel. Guests enjoy sitting outside in the beer garden where individual tables offer handy heaters for colder nights.
positive:
Clean and comfy rooms
Guests find the rooms at the hotel are clean and comfy. Some do mention that they found the decor and furnishings a little dated but given that the hotel advertises antiques in its room, perhaps that's the point. Guests tend to find the beds are good quality and the rooms are sufficiently spacious.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Service is occasionally slow
Perhaps due to the popularity of this hotel as a local dining spot as well as a place to lay your head for the night, the waiter service, particularly in the bar, occasionally seems a little slow. Guests saw tables that weren't cleared for a fairly lengthy period of time.
negative:
Occasional high temperatures
Guests sometimes mention that they found their room was a little too hot for comfort and were unable to adjust the radiators to cool things down a little. Obviously, this will be more of a problem during the summer months.
negative:
Minor noise issues
The Stables bar and beer garden gets very busy with both locals and guests. A number of guests found that the crowd could get a little rowdy and were able to hear noise from their room, particularly around closing time.
