About The Oxfordshire
Situated on a side street, just a few yards from Blackpool’s famous promenade, The Oxfordshires Hotel is a licensed property offering budget accommodation.
The rooms are basic and very simply furnished, but are comfortable enough for a budget stay. Each features en-suite bathroom, TV and tea/coffee station.
The Oxfordshires is a small establishment, and there are no real public facilities.
There is a friendly pub right on-site, where guests can relax with a pint or one of many other drinks. In the mornings, a full English breakfast is available. There are also some continental options, and the staff will try to meet special dietary requirements if given sufficient warning.
The promenade is less than 100 yards away. Central Pier is seven minutes' walk north, and Central Pier 10 minutes’ to the south. Families shouldn’t miss a trip to Sea Life Blackpool, 0.7 miles away.
Positive Reviews
positive:
No frills value for money
While most of the guests state that New Douglas is a genuinely no-frills hotel, many went on to add that the room-rates were also exceptionally low. It seems that they were quite happy to accept very basic accommodation, since all they were really looking for was somewhere to sleep, and this hotel provided them with that at a very low price.
positive:
Kind and friendly hosts
Again and again guests commended the hosts, Steve and Dawn, for running a very tight ship. They were said to extend a warm welcome to their guests, and couldn't seem to do enough to make sure they had everything they needed during their stay.
positive:
Decent breakfast
While guests conceded that it was nothing out of the ordinary, just a fry-up with some continental options added, they said it exceeded their expectations based on the price. It was a solid meal that set them up for the day.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Some rooms a bit noisy
Some rooms at New Douglas are located just above its pub. Of course this meant that they experienced a lot of noise until quite a bit after official closing time. Those who will want to sleep, rather than be the ones making the noise in the pub, could request a quieter room at the back.
negative:
Refundable deposit payable
It seems that a refundable deposit is payable on arrival, with this being returned if the guest is not involved in any noise problems, or various kinds of inappropriate behaviour. Many guests were unaware of this, and felt there were better ways to deal with potential problems.
negative:
Sewage smell
A couple of guests mentioned that there was a smell of sewage coming from their bathroom, indicating potential problems with the building's plumbing system.
