Hotel Maison Tirel Guérin (Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes, France)

Rooms are spacious, attractively decorated and very comfortable.

Being near to the station is an advantage ... and you don't hear the trains at all. Hotel facilities are impressive, particularly the lovely indoor pool. Staff members, throughout, are very kind and helpful.

From here, it's an easy car journey to the region's attractions including Saint-Malo, Cancale, Dinan and Mont Saint-Michel.

If side-lined into the annexe area, don't expect a lift. They've got a ‘lofty' self-opinion in extending their 4-star rating to cover the less than appealing loft room accommodation. Don't get pushed up there. It depends on your budget of course, but this is where some of the standard rooms are and they tend to have just dormer windows. You need to pay even more to get all the room facilities on offer. These 'extras' include air conditioning; vital during the summer months!

The restaurant food is OK … but the prices are difficult to swallow. In fact, for the prices charged, the quality should be better than this. At the other end of the day, breakfast is a disappointment and vastly overpriced.

Rather than staying in the main building, don't fall for the ‘cottage accommodation' ploy. It's really not good enough. To start with, it's several minutes' walk from the hotel. Yes, of course, you use the hotel facilities just as other guests do, but they seem to operate an ‘out of sight, out of mind' policy. Consequently, the wretched cottage is ignored and goes uncleaned for the duration of your stay.
