Travellers really looking to get away from it all should feel in paradise at Little Palm Island Resort & Spa in the Florida Keys. Accessible only by boat or plane, this small five-acre private islet, a favourite hang-out for celebrities and even presidents, has a no-phones, children and TV policy. The thirty air-conditioned thatched-roof bungalow suites overlook the ocean and possess their own private deck and hot tub. Other luxury features include custom-made king-sized beds with romantic "butterfly" netting. Guests can, instead of logging-on, disconnect in the resort’s outdoor pool or spa with its range of treatments, including massages and ritual baths. Little Palm Island Resort & Spa also hosts a gym, boutique and a common area – The Great Room. Guests can enjoy gourmet cuisine and outdoor candlelit dinners on the beach or on the restaurant’s terrace, with private dinners in romantic spots and in-room dining available. Key West International Airport is about 40 kilometres away with the Looe Key Reef Dive Center about two kilometres from the resort.
The tropical atmosphere was what guests had booked at the hotel for. Going by the reviews it seems that they were not disappointed. They found the resort to be private and have all the palm trees and other markers of a tropical hideaway.
Guests couldn’t stop complimenting the food served at the resort. The in-house restaurant is often rated as one of the best in the country and guests seemed to understand why. They found the food simply perfect, with the gorgeous outlook from the restaurant only adding to the whole experience.
Guests were delighted to discover that the island had a small herd of free roaming deer. As can be expected, they are quite tame and guests loved being able to get very close to them.
This was by far the most common complaint. Guests said that not only were the rooms expensive, but the extras were as well. In some guests views the extras were absurdly expensive and they felt that the resort was taking advantage of them.
A number of guests mentioned that there really wasn’t a beach to speak of, and also nowhere really to swim in the sea. It did not completely fit with their idea of a tropical paradise.
A few guests felt that the décor wasn’t quite up to scratch, considering this is very much a luxury resort. They felt the room could do with a refresh.
