Positive Reviews
positive:
What's old is new again...
Many travellers enjoy the combination of the building's distinctive Art Deco features (such as the stained glass windows, staircase, and exterior) with the freshly renovated guest rooms, describing them as modern, bright, and clean, with very comfortable beds. The upper floors offer views of Notre Dame de Fourvière and the Rhône.
positive:
A surprisingly quiet location...
Thanks to the double-glazed windows, guests are pleased to find the rooms are quiet despite being within a stone's throw of the train and tram station, which also offers public parking. it takes about 20-25 minutes to walk to the old town, and the restaurant literally next door is widely described as "excellent."
positive:
Friendly, service-minded staff...
The front desk staff and breakfast host are widely described as pleasant, helpful, and professional. The breakfast is rich and varied, with nice pastries and fresh juices. Recent travellers report that the staff is doing a very good job of limiting the potential inconvenience due to the extensive renovation of the lobby and dining area (taking place summer 2016).
Negative Reviews
negative:
Petite rooms...
Though the superior rooms and suites are considered spacious, some guests find the standard rooms uncomfortably small, and lacking amenities such as a kettle and fridge.
negative:
A steamy night, for some...
Noisy or ineffective air conditioning has been an issue in the hottest summer months. Poor water pressure in the shower is also occasionally reported.
negative:
The light at the end of the tunnel...
Guests note that the neighbourhood immediately surrounding the hotel is a little "grim," as the streets are not particularly well sign-posted and there are some dimly lit underground tunnels around the train station.
