From breakfast to dinner, the food is outstanding at this hotel. The restaurant is well known in the local area as the best place to eat, and the pub serves up a wonderful carvery at lunchtime. You probably won’t eat a bite outside the hotel.
The rooms are very comfortable and feel authentic, but that old feeling is hard to shake. It’s by no means terrible, but the décor could do with a little updating. It’s a shame because overall the hotel is a nice place.
Be careful of your room allocation. Make sure you get a room as far away from the pub as possible as it can get a little noisy around closing time. The late night drinkers on their way home can get a bit loud.
The lift in the hotel is serviceable but in a hotel of this size you’d expect at least two. If you have mobility issues, you may find yourself waiting quite some time to get up and down each day.
